Simula ng jumoin ang kauna-unahang Pilipinong Olympian na si David Nepomuceno 1924 sa Paris, hindi pa nakakasungkit ng gold medal ang mga atletang Pilipino. Bagamat maipagmamayabang ng bansa ang karangalan bilang kauna-unahang [nasyon] delegado mula sa Southeast Asia na nakakuha ng Olympic medal -- bronze sa Swimming (200m breaststroke Men) ni Teofilo Yldefonso sa 1928 Amsterdam Games.
Pinaka-successful ang Pilipinas sa Boxing na may limang medalya, 2 dito ay silver ni Anthony Villanueva sa 1964 Tokyo Games at Mansueto "Onyok" Velasco sa 1996 Altlanta Games, at 5 ay bronze. Sa 1932 Los Angeles Games pinakamaraming napanalunang medalya ng Pilipinas -- 3 bronze ni Simeon Toribio (Men's high jump-Athletics), Jose Villanueva (Men's bantamweight-Boxing) , at Teofilo Yldefonso (Men's 200 m breaststroke-Swimming).
Si Teofilo Yldefonso ang kauna-unahang medalist at ang pinaka-successful sa mga Pilipinong Olympian na may 2 bronze medal. Samantalang si Martin Gison na muntik nang mag-uwi ng medalya sa Shooting nung 1936 Berlin Games, ang may pinakamaraming Olympics na nilahokan -- lima, nung 1936, 1948, 1952, 1956 at1964.
Kung kukwentahin ang mga naiuwing medalya sa Olympics ng mga bansa sa SEA simula nang sumali ito sa palaro hanggang sa nakaraang 2004 Athens Games, pumapangatlo ang Pilipinas na may 9 medal (2 silver at 7 bronze). Nangunguna ang Indonesia na may 19 medalya (5 gold, 8 silver, at 6 bronze) at pumapangalawa ang Thailand na may 17 medalya (5 gold, 2 silver, at 10 bronze).
